Having an economy based on public service jobs, tourism and travel, seniors and retirement is not a sustainable economy. In the USA tourist, holiday and retirement destinations are suffering more then other areas. Florida built a booming economy on seniors retiring to the sun destination, and vacationers flocked to the shores, even agriculture came under attack as developers grabbed the properties for houses, shopping centers and golf courses. It all went bust.
Kelowna is very expensive for young people and many of the jobs are service sector jobs which do not pay well so there has been an exodus of youth to - Alberta or even Vancouver.
When will the bubble burst ?
